Breaking: Major announcement expected from the Winnipeg Jets today.

There have been rumors for a few days of a major announcement coming from the Winnipeg Jets this week and now it appears those rumors have been confirmed.

According to a report from Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun the Jets will in fact make a major announcement on Wednesday and will unveil their new captain as well as their new assistant captains for the 2016-2017 season.

It's a big deal for the Jets who traded away their captain Andrew Ladd prior to the trade deadline last season, a move that by all accounts was the right decision for the organization who went on to draft superstar forward Patrik Laine.

The favorite and the most speculated name has been that of defenseman Dustin Byfuglien who was signed to a long-term contract last season, paving the way for a long future with the organization. It's worth noting though that when it comes to the inner workings of a locker room, things become very hard to predict, so don't be surprised if you see a surprise candidate claiming the "C," with that said we believe Byfuglien is a safe bet.
