Breaking: Two major developments involving Steven Stamkos!
Keystone Press.

There have been two major developments on the Steven Stamkos front and to be perfectly honest, both of them seem to be indicating that the Toronto Maple Leafs are the heavy favorites when it comes to acquiring the free agent.

First according to a report from Steve Simmonds of the Toronto Sun the Maple Leafs met with Stamkos on Tuesday at MLSE's headquarters and in an effort to lure the top free agent forward to their city they also brought in the Mayor of Toronto as well as the CEO of Canadian Tire.

Now the presence of the CEO of a major corporation may seem strange to you, that is until you hear comments from Sportsnet's Bob McCowan regarding the plans of the Maple Leafs. Yesterday during his radio Show McCowan stated that the Leafs will offer Stamkos a marketing contract valued at $3.5 million per year, effectively finding a way to circumvent the cap.

According to McCowan, who is extremely well connected at Rogers, the deal has been approved by lawyers from both the NHLPA and the NHL and would go through if Stamkos were to sign in Tampa.

The only reason this story hasn't garnered more headlines is due to the massive trade involving former first overall pick Taylor Hall today.
