Bruins send 3 players down to the American Hockey League on Sunday.

The Boston Bruins have made some major changes to their roster today and it may point to the fact that the Bruins will be getting some healthy bodies back into their lineup sooner rather than later.

According to an official announcement from the Bruins organization, the team has demoted 3 players to the American Hockey League today and for the purposes of this article we will begin with recently called up forward Paul Carey. The 31 year old center was called up over the weekend when the Bruins made the move to place veteran defenseman Torey Krug on injured reserve but did not get much of a shot to prove himself at the NHL level. Carey appeared in just one game for the Bruins prior to being sent back down today, recording no goals and no assists and finish that game with a plus minus rating of -1. It's an unfortunate situation for Carey who was shining at the AHL level this season with 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points in 17 games, and a plus minus rating of +8 on the season.

Joining Carey on the trip back down to the baby Bruins will be former Bruins first round draft choice Trent Frederic.The 21 year old center has appeared in 2 games for the Bruins this season where he has accumulated no points and is a plus minus of -1 on the season. Frederic has been far less dynamic from an offensive perspective in the AHL as well with no goals and 5 assists for just 5 points over his first 15 games with Providence.

Last but certainly not least we have another former first round pick of the Bruins in the form of 20 year old Bruins defenseman Urho Vaakanainen. Vaakanainen appeared in 3 games for the Bruins this season and although he scored no points he also showed that he is not a liability went the Bruins put him on the ice, Vaakanainen has a plus minus rating of +1 this season and the NHL level. Vaakanainen has also played 15 games for Providence in which he has no goals and 2 assists for 2 total points and a plus minus rating of 0 on the season.

The Bruins could be looking to make space for the returns of players like Torey Krug, Patrice Bergeron, David Backes and potentially even Kevan Miller but Joe Haggerty believes the moves are simply cap related. That is of course only speculation at this time and it remains to be seen what these moves will mean for the Bruins moving forward.
