One of the most intriguing stories of the summer has been the possibility of a return to the National Hockey League for Kontinental Hockey League superstar Ilya Kovalchuk.

The topic of his return has been shrouded in a great deal of mystery and now we have two conflicting reports that only serve to add more confusion into the mix.

Russian reporter Igor Eronko of Sports Express is now reporting that the New York Rangers are out of the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes, and while we have a great deal of respect for Eronko, who is one of the must-follow sources in Russian hockey, another very solid journalist disagreed entirely.

Commenting directly on the report from Eronko, New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks responded with just one word, but it was enough to place some serious doubt on Eronko's report.

"Nonsense," said Brooks.

Brooks may be the best source for Rangers hockey, so it's really hard to tell who's sources are correct here.
