This just in, the New Jersey Devils have announced that forward Timo Meier has undergone shoulder surgery and will rehab the entire offseason. He's expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2024-25 season.

From the Devils:

Read below for the official press release announcement from the Devils and the NHL:

Following the end of the season, Devils forward Timo Meier decided to undergo elective arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder. The procedure will take place today and be performed by Devils Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow and Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas.

Meier is expected to make a full recovery to be available for 2024 New Jersey Devils Training Camp.

This news comes right on the heels of the Devils shutting down Jack Hughes earlier this month.

Official statement from the team:

The New Jersey Devils provided the following medical update on center Jack Hughes.

In recent conversations with Jack, his family and representatives, the Devils’ athlete care staff, and Devils’ Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow, it was determined that Jack should be held out of game action for the rest of this season and proceed with shoulder surgery.

He will undergo the surgery on April 10, which will be performed by Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, Colorado.

Hughes is expected to make a full recovery to be available for 2024 New Jersey Devils Training Camp.

Hughes missed significant time earlier this season with a shoulder injury and Devils fans have been calling for the team to shut him down for weeks now... possibly months. It's been clear to me that Hughes just hasn't been himself since about January, yet the team continued to drive him into the ground. You have to wonder if the same thing is true for Meier, as well.

The Devils' offseason has the potential to be absolutely fascinating. The team failed to live up to expectations this past season, but they'll have a full season (presumably) under head coach Travis Green next campaign. You have to imagine that a healthy Hughes and Meier will play a big factor, as well. Now... about that goaltending?
