Elite defenseman wants to be traded “sooner rather than later.”

There have been major trade rumors involving highly skilled St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk for several weeks and frankly it was surprising to see that he wasn't traded at the National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Apparently we weren't the only ones surprised, and in fact according to a report from Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Dispatch Shattenkirk's own agent expected a deal to get done last week.

However it does sound like the Blues won't be able to match Shattenkirk's contract demands, and as an elite 27 year old defenseman there is no doubt that the Blues will be forced to pull the trigger on a trade or risk losing one of their top assets for nothing at the end of next season. The Blues know it, Shattenkirk knows it, and his agent knows it, and it sounds like the Shattenkirk camp is getting a little impatient.

"I would say at this point, Kevin and I do think it is inevitable that he ultimately will get traded," said agent Jordan Neumann. "So with that in mind, I guess any player in that situation would certainly hope it would be sooner rather than later.”

Shattenkirk has a no-trade clause, and according to multiple reports has been open to a trade until now, but if the Blues make him wait any longer he could simply opt to wait for free agency where he could make his own choice and get maximum value for his skills.
