Mark Scheifele suffers gruesome injury in Game 1.

I hate to say it but this one looks like it might put an end to Mark Scheifele's run in the playoffs.

On Saturday night during the late game between the Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets, Scheifele appear to suffer a serious injury to his leg or knee, and based on his reaction to the injury I suspect that this is a very serious one indeed. The Jets forward could be heard screaming in pain on the ice and even if you could not have heard him his body language would have told you everything about the situation in his mind at the time. Scheifele was writhing on the ice back and forth and I can only imagine what he must have been feeling at that moment to produce such a visceral reaction from the veteran forward.

Scheifele was injured when he made a play along the boards while being chased down by Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk. There did not seem to be any contact from Tkachuk, at least not any that caused the incident, but instead it was Scheifele's own momentum that resulted in his skate become jammed against the boards. His leg then took the full force of the impact and appear to buckle under the pressure, causing Scheifele to immediately collapse to the ice and resulting in a stoppage of play.

The NHL has a clear policy regarding injuries at this time, but you don't need to be a genius to figure out that this one isn't going to be good for the Jets.
