It's no surprise that a lot of eyes have been focused on protected first overall pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Auston Matthews, during his participation at the World Championship, and one current NHL player has just paid him a massive compliment.

Forward Nick Foligno of the Columbus Blue Jackets is also at the World Championship and he's currently playing on the same squad as young Auston Matthews, and when asked to compare him to a current NHL player he made a very bold statement.

“Sounds a lot like a Jonathan Toews , if you ask me,” Foligno said as per Chris Nichols. “It’s a tough comparison. I don’t want to put that on him, but when you watch him play — I’ve gotten to play against Jonathan for a long time now — and you kind of draw those comparisons.

“He doesn’t really blow you away sometimes with his flashiness but he’s always on the score sheet. He’s always making a difference in the game. You can kind of see that in Auston. So it’s pretty exciting for whoever gets him in the draft.”

Foligno was aware of the kind of pressure such a comparison would put on Matthews and stated as much when compliment the young man, but despite that he still felt it was accurate and fair. I have to agree with Foligno on this one, if he's at all accurate in his comparison, it's very exiting for whoever gets Huston Matthews.
