We have a scandalous story in Montreal, and it doesn't sound like it's the kind of scandal that's going away.

According to a report this morning from Habs insider Marco Normandin, journalist Michel Villeneuve was fired yesterday evening after he threatened to blow the lid off a major scandal involving the Montreal Canadiens, and now many believe the Canadiens themselves may have pressured his employer into terminating him.

For those who don't know Villeneuve, he was the man who reported the alleged comments made by Montreal Canadiens head coach  Michel Therrien regarding his captain Max Pacioretty. In case you've been living under a rock, Therrien allegedly called Pacioretty the worst captain in the organizations history.

Yesterday Therrien denied those comments, and it was his denial that outraged Villeneuve, prompting him to state that he was not going to have his name dragged through the mud because Therrien couldn't admit his wrongdoing. Instead Villeneuve doubled down on his comments, and threatened to leak the full story upon his return from vacation on October 7th should the Canadiens still refuse to acknowledge his report was accurate.

We don't know what the whole story is, but from Villeneuve's tone it was crystal clear that Therrien calling Pacioretty the worst captain in Canadiens' history wasn't the worst thing he had said during that alleged conversation, and Villeneuve claims to have all of the details.

Hours later Villeneuve was confronted by his employers who demanded he reveal his sources, some believe a move that was prompted by pressure from the Canadiens organization, when Villeneuve refused to abandon his journalistic integrity, he was told he no longer had a job.

Unfortunately if the Canadiens were in fact attempting to shut down this story, it has backfired horrendously, as now more eyeballs than ever are on Villeneuve, and are eagerly anticipating what he will reveal now that he's free to say pretty much whatever he wants.
