Brutal.

We often hear how good goaltenders have become over the past few years compared to those who played in the 1960s or 70s. But even if the techniques and the equipment they use have greatly evolved over the past decades, that doesn't mean they can't allow bad goals once in a while.

As a matter of fact, two netminders have allowed some of the most brutal goals of the season on Saturday afternoon,.

You can see in the first video that Philadelphia Flyers' forward Brandon Manning attempted to toss the puck against the boards in the Ottawa Senators' zone, but it deflected off the boards and into the net, as Craig Anderson goes behind the crease to play the puck. Ouch! Tough luck!

Here's another angle:

And that's not all. Colorado Avalanche's star forward Nathan MacKinnon also scored a goal from center ice against the Calgary Flames, earlier today. But this time, it wasn't because of a weird bounce off the boards. Flames' netminder Jon Gillies' body language after the puck went in tells you everything you need to know about how embarrassing this was for him. He knows, just as well as everyone watching this play knows, that you can't let that one go in at the National Hockey League level.

MacKinnon's goal was, however, the only bright moment for the Avalanche today, who suffered a 5-1 loss against Calgary. Flames' forward Michael Backlund amassed three points, while Matthew Tkachuk, Troy Brouwer and T.J. Brodie scored two.

Manning + MacKinnon centre ice goals

"Well that's unconventional." ? Brandon Manning and Nathan MacKinnon both scored from centre ice this afternoon. So, who did it better?
