After playing just six games last year, LA Kings defenceman Slava Voynov has started his 90 days jail sentence on July 7th, according to the LA Times.

To stay at the 30-bed Detention Center in Seal Beach, Voynov must pay $100 per day. Bedding and uniforms are provided. He's allowed to bring a number of personal items, including an inexpensive watch, five photographs and up to $100 in cash for purchases from the commissary. The actual amount of time served is expected to be 45 days or less because of good behavior and other reductions. Voynov must also complete a 52-week domestic violence prevention program and eight hours of community service.

Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the NHL with pay since he was arrested in October. Voynov allegedly struck his wife in the face, choked and kicked her multiple times. After a first incident at a Halloween party organized by the Kings, Voynov continued to strike his wife at their residence.

We all hope the NHL will eventually take a strong and definitive stance regarding the Russian's future in the league.

Voynov's arrest represented the first hurdle to a season of misery for the LA Kings who have seen two other players being arrested for drug possession; Jarret Stoll and Mike Richards.
