Report: Wings welcome back veteran Daniel Cleary.
Keystone Press

At the end of last season Daniel Cleary said all the right things despite being demoted to the American Hockey League and by all accounts was a great influence on the young prospects that populate the Grand Rapids Griffins roster. Likely in large part to both these factors the Red Wings have made the decision to bring him back within the organization.

On Friday it was announced that Cleary had agreed to terms on a new deal with the Griffins where he will resume his role as a mentor for the up and coming young generation of Detroit Red Wings, although this doesn't necessarily prohibit him from being used by Detroit on the NHL level.

It's a great move for both sides, and this new found role for Cleary has quickly turned him into one of the most reviled players on the NHL roster to a well respected veteran who may be earning himself a longer term future as a member of the Red Wings organization.
