Some big talent on waivers today.

It sounds like today's waiver wire is going to be absolutely insane to say the least.

Although the waivers for today have not yet been officially announced it already sounds like we are going to have some big talent up for grabs today with multiple former first round draft selections hitting the waiver wire. As the start of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season draws closer and closer with every passing second teams around the league are being forced to make some difficult choices, and today's waiver rumors would certainly appear to indicate that.

First it was Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman who reported that the Vancouver Canucks would be sending Sven Baertschi to the waiver wire. This has to be considered a low point in the career of the Baertschi who has never realized the potential the Calgary Flames saw in him when they selected him 13th overall at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Especially when you consider some of the other potential waiver options on the Canucks roster, it is a damning condemnation of Baertschi and speaks to just how far he has fallen in the eyes of the organization.

It sounds like Baertschi won't be the only former first round pick on waivers today, so at least he will have some company. Islanders insider Arthur Staple is also reporting that Josh Ho-Sang is also destined for waivers today. Ho-Sang has never found a consistent spot on the Islanders roster in spite of his obvious offensive talents, and in spite of the fact that he was selected 28th overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He has been a consistent disappointment for fans of the Islanders and like Baertschi this has to feel like a low point in his young career.

Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that both those men will have company as well with former first round pick Luke Schenn also set to go on waivers today. The former Toronto Maple Leafs first round pick (5th overall) at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft has bounced around like crazy in recent years and it sounds like he might be on the move once again.

Update: Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston has now confirmed that all 3 of these moves have been made official. Additionally it looks like Sam Gagner of the Edmonton Oilers, also a former first round pick, will also be on waivers today.
