Tkachuk and Dumba drop the gloves just 40 seconds in!

We knew there would be bad blood on Saturday afternoon and it took no time at all to deliver.

It was a match up that many Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames fans had circled on their calendar and it was almost assuredly one that the Flames had been eagerly anticipating since the previous match up earlier this month. On Saturday the Flames and Wild were set to square off for the first time since Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba delivered a massive hit that laid out Flames veteran Mikael Backlund in the final minute of a December match up and there was the strong scent of revenge leading into this one

Although the hit from Dumba had been ruled a clean hit the Flames had expected him to answer the bell after taking out Backlund, at that time however  Dumba had simply opted to turtle and not defend himself rather than risk throwing punches so late in a game that had effectively been decided at that point. That was all well and good for Dumba on that day due to the fact that there was no time left on the clock, but with a full 60 minutes to go on Saturday you knew it would only be a matter of time before the Flames came calling.

They did call on Dumba to once again answer for the hit and this time Dumba was more than prepared to go to work, although no one would have predicted that the challenge would come so quickly. It took the Flames less than 40 seconds to get Dumba's attention and unsurprisingly it was notorious Calgary Flames agitator Matthew Tkachuk that was the instigator, taunting the Wild defenseman until he willingly dropped his gloves and squared up for a fight.

Unfortunately for Flames fans who were hoping to see Tkachuk unleash some vengeance for his fallen line mate there was not much of a fight to speak of between these two who threw few punches, none of which really seemed to connect with any great deal of force. While I do not doubt that both men were trying to land and do damage they largely just grappled with one another while attempting to do so. Frankly the Chicago Blackhawks mascot did a better job of dealing with what was allegedly an unruly fan in a video published earlier today.
