A huge fail from Price.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price is widely regarded as one of the best goaltenders on the entire planet, but even the greatest of players is capable of making a horrible flub at times.

That was exactly the case for the Canadiens superstar on Saturday night during what was, luckily, only an exhibition game against Canadian rivals the Ottawa Senators. Given that these two teams are roughly just a 2 hour drive from one another, they have fostered quite the rivalry in recent years and that was on full display Saturday night. The two teams were playing gritty hockey and the game very much had a regular season feel to it, but thankfully for Carey Price it is not going to count at the end of the day.

That's because with roughly just 2 minutes left to go in the 3rd period of Saturday's game against the Senators, Price made arguably the ugliest mistake of his professional career thus far. The Senators had just cleared the puck into the Canadiens' zone and although there was not much of a race for the puck, Price decided he would leave his net and make a play on the puck. Price spotted a fellow teammate on the other side of the ice and decided he would make a long pass across the ice to reach him, except he fanned quite badly on the shot.

The result was one of the ugliest turnovers you're ever going to see from a goaltender, one that gave Ottawa Senators forward Filip Chlapik all the time in the world he needed to score. In fact Chlapik wisely used that time to make sure both Price and a streaking Shea Weber could not make a save on the play. Both Price and Weber immediately dove for the Habs net after the brutal turnover to Chlapik, but the young forward showed experience well beyond his years when he faked a shot, waited for both Weber and Price to slide passed the crease, and fired what will likely be the easiest goal of his NHL career into the back of the net.

A really poor play from Price, but thankfully a lesson he can learn at absolutely no cost in the preseason.
