A look at some of this winter's best outdoor rinks(Part 1).

It's that time of year again, it's cold as it can possibly be outside and although that means that a lot of the time we tend to remain huddled indoors in the warmth, it also means it's outdoor hockey season.

Now if you're lucky enough you live in a municipality that will provide you with an outdoor rink that you can play on during the winter months, but unfortunately that is not always the case for everybody. Hockey fans however always find a way to make things a reality and that is why each and every year we are witnesses to some incredible outdoor designs right in people's own backyards. While some of these projects are just your average run of the mill outdoor rink, all of them require a great deal of work to set up, and some of the results are just simply amazing.

TSN National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger has started something of an annual tradition in which he, on Christmas Eve, asks his followers to send him all their best pictures of the outdoor skating rinks they have built this year, and he then proceeds to signal boost the best ones he receives on social media. Not only does that make it a great tradition for celebrating the hard work that people put into their projects each and every year, but it also has the added benefit of giving us a chance to see some of the amazing work that our fellow human beings have done, all in the name of their love for the sport of hockey.

The result is a dazzling display of outdoor rink after outdoor rink  and they come in absolutely all shapes and sizes. From the basic project that contains merely a patch of ice on the ground for kids to play in to the absolutely majestic and elaborate work that make these rinks look more like genuine works of art than anything else. Some of these are truly beautiful and nearly all of them will give you a desire to go outside and play some puck, so here's a look at some of the best submissions of the day, so far.
