12 NHL team spotted scouting the Habs on Sunday.

All eyes this Sunday evening are on the National Football League's championship game, it's annual Super Bowl Sunday. That however does not mean that there was not plenty of action earlier in the day in the National Hockey League, and in fact it looks like quite a few teams were very busy today indeed.

There were only three games on the NHL's schedule on Sunday but it seems like just about half the teams in the entire league decided to converge on one spot, the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec. That is where the Montreal Canadiens welcomed the Edmonton Oilers in a battle of two teams that have a fight ahead of them if they intend to make into the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but all of the action on this day was not on the ice. No in fact quite a few heads were turned and more than a few eyebrows raised at what was going on in the crowd.

According to a report from Montreal Canadiens beat reporter Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette, there were no fewer than twelve NHL franchises scouting the Oilers and Habs on Sunday, and many of those organizations had multiple scouts in attendance on top of it. It's unclear what exactly drew so many NHL teams to this one game in particular but you have to believe that it was one of the two teams on the ice, although which of the two were drawing all the attention is anyone's guess.

The NHL teams with one scout on hand were the Ottawa Senators, the Calgary Flames, the Nashville Predators, the Vancouver Canucks, the Chicago Blackhawks, the New Jersey Devils, the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild. However there were additional teams with two scouts on hand and those were the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars. Perhaps most interesting of all however was the presence that the Toronto Maple Leafs had at the game.

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas has already shown a willingness to make big moves ahead of the deadline with his acquisition of Jake Muzzin and he may not be done yet. No fewer than three scouts were on hand for the Leafs including Leafs' director of player personnel Dave Morrison. This is one situation to definitely keep an eye on if you're a fan of either the Habs or the Oilers.
