A 20-year-old defenseman is having a breakout season in the Western Hockey League, and one National Hockey League franchise decided they weren't waiting until the end of the year to sign him.
According to a breaking news report from Los Angeles Kings insider Jon Rosen, the Kings have signed Austin Strand of the Seattle T-Birds as an unrestricted free agent on Monday.
Strand was having a dominant season in the WHL, recording 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in just 24 games played this season and that put him on the radar of a number of NHL teams.
The Kings however have pulled off a big win by being the team that has signed him, and now they will be hoping he can bring that level of talent to the National Hockey League moving forward.
