Last September before the start of the 2019-20 NHL season, TSN’s Bob McKenzie put together his draft projections for the upcoming summer. At number 7, he put young forward Hendrix Lapierre of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL and knew the kid would be one to watch this campaign.

Unfortunately for the young centerman, Lapierre sustained his second concussion of the month of November during Thursday night’s game against the Moncton Wildcats.

He is expected to be out indefinitely, which will affect his ranking at the upcoming NHL draft. Some say, his career could also be in jeopardy.

Lapierre was hit by Jakob Pelletier on a play and sustained a second concussion this season. Earlier this month, the 17-year-old forward missed action because of another hit to the head.

This is his third concussion in less than eight months.

This is how McKenzie described Lapierre’s play in his 2020 draft projection back in September:

“The Chicoutimi Sagueneen is a savvy, creative, playmaking centre who not only puts up points as an offensive catalyst but also plays a solid, committed game all over the ice. Maybe not a huge “wow” factor here, but the scouts who like him said he “plays the game the right way.” There seems to be a bit of a mixed bag of opinions on Lapierre. Eight of 10 scouts surveyed have him as a Top 10 prospect, including four scouts who have him as high as No. 3 or No. 4. Two scouts, however, had him outside the Top 10 and one of those two didn’t include him in his Top 15.”

Let’s hope he feels better and makes the best decision for his future.
