All the talk around the Colorado Avalanche has been focused on forwards Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog and the prevailing thought has been that the Avs want to retain their young guns and build towards the future. On Wednesday we got a hint that the Avalanche may be looking at a much more complete overhaul of their program.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman is now reporting that that 22-year-old Avalanche center Mikhail Grigorenko has been made available.

From Friedman:

In the middle of everything else, it sounds like the Avalanche would also like to find a new home for Mikhail Grigorenko. His contract is up; he is a restricted free agent.

Grigorenko, a former first round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2012 is due for a new contract and it appears that general manager Joe Sakic would prefer to deal him for assets than work towards a new deal. While he hasn't lit the world on fire this season picking up just 6 goals and 12 assists for a total of 18 points in 55 games, it's important to note that he does play on a horrible team.

Young centers are hard to come by in the NHL so there will certainly be teams interested in making this deal a reality.
