23-year-old NHL prospect announces retirement!

This is unexpected…

Some people don’t seem to realize that it takes a lot of work to make it in the National Hockey League…

I don’t want to assume that this kid didn’t give everything he had, but this announcement has shocked more than one NHL fan on Tuesday.

According to reporter Andrew Zadarnowki of TSN and Habs Eyes on The Prize, young prospect blue liner Nikolas Koberstein has decided to retire at the age of 23 years old.

The prospect prefers to look at other opportunities outside of hockey, he who the Montreal Canadiens relinquished the rights to back on August 15th.

Koberstein was selected by Montreal back in 2014. The Habs picked him in the third round, 125th overall.

For the last four years, the 6’2” defenseman has been playing for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on scholarship while he pursued a degree in business administration. We guess that is where he prefers to take his focus for his future.

While we don’t know why the Canadiens decided not to offer him an offer this summer, we can now see that general manager Marc Bergevin made the right call.

Here at Hockey Feed, we wish Koberstein all the best in his future endeavours and hope he won’t regret his decision.
