30 players placed on waivers today, including NHL veterans Adam Clendening, Martin Frk, and more.

We are closing in on the final week of the National Hockey League's preseason for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season and that means that teams are starting to make major slashes to their training camp roster. For the past few days we have seen a huge number of players hit the waiver wire and Monday was no exception, however it is interesting that none of the players waived over the weekend were claimed by rival organizations.

This may merely be a product of the fact that the stagnant salary cap for the 2019 - 2020 NHL season greatly limited the flexibility of a number of teams over the summer, and may in fact still be hampering their ability to make even minor changes at this stage of the summer. There are some interesting names on today's list of waivers as well though so it is not impossible that we see a player claimed before tomorrow's waiver deadline. 

The names that may raise some eyebrows today are that of veteran defenseman Adam Clendening, somewhat of a surprise on waivers today given that some expected him to win a job over Blue Jackets second round pick Andrew Peeke, but it appears that is not the case. The Jackets also released journeyman Markus Hannikainen after signing him to a one-way deal, but I suspect that will make teams wary of claiming him. 25 year old former Red Wings' forward Martin Frk also finds himself on waivers today and could be a serviceable depth option for an NHL team out there.
