We are drawing closer and closer to the start of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season and that means that teams around the league are beginning to make deeper and deeper cuts to their respective rosters as they try and trim down to a list of 23 players.

Today provided ample evidence of that as no fewer than 9 players were sent to the waiver wire by their respective teams and although all of these players are now eligible to be claimed by opposing organizations, it seems unlikely they will be claimed. Not necessarily because of their individual value per say but due largely to the fact that other organizations are making roster cuts of their own and likely wouldn't have the roster space to accommodate such a move at this stage of the season. That being said it's not outside of the realm of possibility.

First and foremost the most interesting name on the list belongs to Anton Rodin of the Anaheim Ducks. The former Vancouver Canucks 2nd round pick (53rd overall) has had a tumultuous time when it comes to playing in North America and this most recent outing seems to be no exception. Rodin was placed on unconditional waivers by the Ducks on Saturday with the purpose of that move being the termination of his current NHL contract. Rodin was sent to earn $750,000 on a one year deal with the Ducks but it now appears that both sides have decided that it would be best for them to move on.

Rodin however is just one of 9 players being waived today and although the 8 others are not currently facing a contract termination or a potential buyout of their existing deals, they are facing a demotion to the American Hockey League. The other 8 players who will be placed on waivers today are the following:

Greg McKegg of the Carolina Hurricanes, Patrick Brown also of the Hurricanes, Evan Mceneny of the Vancouver Canucks, Justin Bailey of the Buffalo Sabres, Nicholas Baptiste also of the Buffalo Sabres, as well as Michael Mersch and Erik Condra of the Dallas Stars.

We will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see who will clear and who will be signed.
