Fans in the Big Apple knew rookie Kaapo Kakko had great talent: I mean, that’s why the New York Rangers selected him second overall this past summer. However, early into the 2019-20, the kid himself was coming down hard on his performances, saying he wasn’t playing good hockey or having fun.
The 18-year-old forward promised then he would focus better and get going.
Oh boy, did he ever.
Kakko played well beyond his age in Tuesday’s 3-2 overtime win over the Penguins, scoring two goals including the game-winner in the extra period. It all started in the first period when Kakko notched his fifth goal of the season to put the Rangers up 1-0.
He ended with his first multi-goal effort of his young career, thanks to his overtime winner and he’s now scored five goals in his last seven games.
With that came a pretty awesome record for Kakko to get even more motivated about: according to NHL Stats and Information, Kaapo Kakko is the first 18-year-old to register a multi-goal game in Rangers history.
The Rangers are now 3-1-1 in the month of November and we can feel a hat trick is just around the corner for KK!
