A frustrated Tavares suggests rule change after controversial loss to Blackhawks

It was so close. 

When things seemed so hopeless after the first period, when the Chicago Blackhawks took a 4-0 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs, no one could have imagined that the Canadian team was on its way to an impressive comeback. 

Well, almost on its way… 

They did manage to get things going in the third period, but it was a little too late for the Leafs. But it sure looked like Toronto had managed to tie things up late in the third. The Leafs slipped the puck past Hawks goalie Collin Delia, however, it was called off since the net came loose and moved out of place. 

Fans were shocked and Leafs were frustrated as they lost 5-4 in the end, and after the game, John Tavares expressed how he believes things should be changed in situations like this. 

Yes, the Leafs star forward believes to have an interesting rule change for the owners to think about.

“I didn’t see what happened there with the net coming off, but if that’s on purpose by them, especially in the last couple mins in big situations, I would love to see that being a challenge at some point. You have that kind of pressure & that’s kind of a free out …”

The NHL’s rule book states in the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, by a defending player, prior to the puck crossing the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts, the referee may award a goal.

The NHL might listen now that a star player is complaining about it?
