According to a report from a credible source, veteran Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul might have played his last NHL game last year.

After losing a good part of last year to a surgery getting an hernia removed, Lupul is reported as walking away from the game quietly. He reportedly feel his body no longer keep pace with an ever faster and demanding league.

With one full year remaining on his contract for the 2017-2018 season, the Leafs are faced with a problem. With a cap hit of 5.25M$, the temptation to buy back his contract exists. A non-playing forward doesn't serve any purpose, after all. He might be traded to accomplish an accounting trick though, but that would be surprising.

With 420 points in 701 games played in the NHL, the career of Lupul might be referred as another ''The-what-would-have-happened-if-he-stayed-healthy-guy''.
