The NHL expansion is starting to look like a bit of a misfire from the league. We now have a second report of an official NHL expansion bid, but this one was largely considered a shoe-in to get a team. The bid comes from Bill Foley the man who many believe will be the owner of an almost certain NHL expansion to Las Vegas. However the official announcement of Foley's bid also carries with it some troubling news for the NHL. The cities of Hamilton, Seattle, and Kansas City, were all seen as potential candidates but the reported $100 million dollar application fee may have scared some prospective bidders/owners away. If CBC News is indeed correct in their assessment that only two bids have been received, this has to be viewed as a gross miscalculation by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the NHL as a whole.
