A trade between two long-time rivals?

It appears that we may see a deal between two long time rivals come to fruition.

It may seem awfully strange to think about the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks finding a way to make a deal work together, after all they are both Canadian teams and play in the same conference against one another, however given the source of the information it's credible.

According to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger the Canucks, and more specifically general manager Jim Benning is particularly interested in acquiring Andrew Ladd, who is expected to be traded prior to the deadline after negotiations with the Jets fell apart.

“Now, the Jets made an offer prior to the start of the year on Ladd, their captain – six years at just over or around $6 million," said Dreger as per Nichols on Hockey. "That hasn’t been a deal that’s good enough for Andrew Ladd to accept as of late."

“So if he goes to market, and he’s not on the market yet, look at Florida. Don’t forget Jim Benning, formerly of the Boston Bruins, who’s in Vancouver. He’d have some interest.

A big physical winger like Ladd could easily fit into the Canucks line up, but given that his contract is up at the end of the season, and the Canucks aren't even a lock to make the playoffs it seems like a curious target for Benning. That is unless Benning believes he can sign Ladd during the offseason.
