Awful night for Larsson.

If you happen to cheer for the Edmonton Oilers the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season has not been a particularly pleasant experience for you and it may have hit rock bottom on Sunday night.

The Oilers faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night and it was one of the uglier games of the season for the Oilers. It appeared as if the players on the Oilers roster had simply given up, with the possible exception of veteran Zack Kassian who did try and spark some life into his team, and there was simply not enough effort from their roster on the ice against the Hurricanes. After the game however a lot of the focus was on one player Oilers defenseman Adam Larsson a rather infamous name to Oilers fans at this point.

Larsson is of course the piece that the Oilers received in the trade that sent star forward Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils, an ill fated trade that has earned Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli derision from fans in Edmonton and across the National Hockey League as a whole. Not only would Hall infamously go on to win the Hart Memorial Trophy after being dealt to the Devils but Larsson has never even come close to being considered among the league's elite defenders.

Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug had some scathing criticism for Larsson following the game, stating that he felt this was some of the worst hockey of Larsson's entire career in the National Hockey League.

"This is some of the worst hockey I've seen Adam Larsson play," said Rishaug. "He's not the only one, but this has been an awful night for him. Oilers have been atrocious. Effort level, attention to detail not even in the ball park. Can only imagine what the owner is thinking watching this."

Less you think this is merely a rant from a bitter reporter, Larsson himself admitted that he was disgusted with his performance following the game.

"I can't even look at team play right now," said Larsson. "I have my own game to focus on; it's so bad right now. I've gotta fix that first before I even look left to right."

This of course only serves to make one of the worst trades in recent memory look even more catastrophic for Chiarelli and the Oilers and you have to wonder how much longer things can continue going this way. There has been no indication that Chiarelli will be replaced in spite of his catastrophic performance as Oilers general manager and perhaps it's long past time Oiler fans start sending a message with their wallets.
