Aho’s agent accused of fraud in offer sheet saga!

The Montreal Canadiens pulled a shocking move on Monday, signing Carolina Hurricanes restricted free-agent forward Sebastian Aho to a five-year, $42.27-million offer sheet. It was the first time since 2013 that an offer sheet had been signed.

A day later, Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon revealed his club will match the offer sheet during a conference call in which Aho himself was notably absent.

However, his agent Gerry Johansson has been quite vocal about the hot topic across the league and TVA Sports asked him some tough questions on Tuesday night, as hosts of Les Partants accused him of manipulating Habs GM Marc Bergevin during the offer sheet talks.

Johansson was quick to defend himself during the interview, laughing the accusations off seeing that he still maintains it was a great offer by the Canadiens.

“I don’t think I am that smart and Marc Bergevin is a clever man,” he explained as he laughed about the questions. “Overall I believe it was a very aggressive attempt in order to land a player of Sebastian’s caliber. I believe it was a very good shot, honestly.
“Obviously, it looks like the Hurricanes are going to match it. Every attempt you make is not necessarily going to succeed, but I applaud the effort.”

Johansson also noted that his client still loves playing for Carolina and would enjoyed the chance to become part of the Montreal franchise. While for now things may be a bit tense between the agent and the Canes’ management, Johansson believes Dundon will move on and things will work out for the best.

While some Habs fans believe he might have worked in the Canes’ favour to get Aho back for a less expensive deal, it seems like Johansson truly wants what is best for his client. And while he thinks the Canadiens made an aggressive offer to land Aho, it clearly wasn’t good enough.
