Akim Aliu calls out NHL Players chirping Evander Kane, fans respond

Aliu seems to think Kane should be off limits.

Michael W.

Former NHL forward Akim Aliu made headlines in 2020 when he accused Bill Peters, who was at the time the head coach of the Calgary Flames, of having used racial slurs against him when the two were with the AHL's Rockford Ice Hogs a decade earlier. Peters apologized to the Flames for using "offensive language" and promptly resigned his post.

Of course, Aliu tweeted his support for Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri, who had been facing death threats and racially-charged attacks on his ethnicity following a collision with St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington that knocked the latter out for the remainder of their ongoing series.

However, Aliu is taking things in a different direction, calling out both players and fans who are giving grief to Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane. Among Aliu's targets of criticism include Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk, who mocked Kane by asking Kane if he needed some money; Kane had filed for bankruptcy just prior to the 2021 season.

"How is this ok or funny?" he tweeted. "Seems when certain types of athletes go through personal issues(countless examples in hockey)fans, players and media root for a comeback. But somehow now personal attacks are normalized. What gives this time around..?"

You see Akim, there is a major difference in chirping a player who has created no shortage of controversy off the ice, including allegations of domestic abuse and child neglecting, as opposed to the vile racially-charged attacks on Kadri by a small group of cowardly "fans". And it wasn't long before Twitter users began responding to Aliu.
