The Rangers are having a season full of ups and downs and are currently sit at the 6th position in the Metropolitan Division. That being said, things are starting to look up. With a record of 5-1-1 in their previous 7 games, they are well on the way to getting back into the playoff picture.

Their recent success is in large part due to great performances by 23-year-old netminder, Alexandar Georgiev. In yesterday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets which the Rangers won by a score of 3-2, Georgiev made 45 saves on 47 shots on goal by the Blue Jackets. He singlehandedly assured that his team got the victory. On top of all that, he made some incredible and spectacular saves like this one:

It isn't the first time that Georgiev performs so well. Last season he made 55 saves on 56 shots against the Toronto Maple Leafs and even made 93 consecutive saves over a few games. It made Rangers' history as the biggest streak of consecutive saves made by a Rangers goalie since the 1997-1998 season, which means that even Henrik Lundqvist hasn't achieved such a feat in his entire career.

However, Georgiev is still young and is inconsistent. While he sometimes has great performances where he seems absolutely unbeatable, he sometimes seems completely overwhelmed and gets taken out of more than his faire share of games. Georgiev has a 2.98 Goal Against Average and a .918 Save Percentage, which illustrates his inconsistency on one hand, but his 7-4-1 record reflects the fact that he often finds ways to win.

With Henrik Lundqvist visibly on the decline, Georgiev has to step in this season and already has better stats than his mentor. His recent performances are quite encouraging. Could Alexandar Georgiev definitively surpass Lundqvist as the starting netminder in New York before the end of the season? Only time will tell but he is certainly looking like a future elite goaltender in the NHL.
