Before the start of the 2016-17 NHL season, a handful of people knew who Jake Guentzel was, by the end of that campaign, his name became a household one.

Guentzel started the 2016-17 campaign in the AHL playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins affiliated AHL club where he showed he was an NHL calibre player scoring 21 goals and collecting 42 points in just 33 games.

Guentzel's played his first game in the Show on the 8th of April 2017 versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had two points in his first game, 6 in his first 3 games and continued to be a nightmare for  goaltenders and blueliners as he scored 16 goals and amassed 33 points in the 40 regular season games he played.

But it's in the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs that Guentzel made a name for himself, scoring 13 goals, a playoffs high and added 8 assists in 25 games. The Nebraska native played was a major factor in his team's Stanley Cup run, helping the Penguins winning a second straight Stanley Cup.

This year might not be as easy as the previous one for Guentzel as teams now know what he's capable of but playing alongside the Crosby's and Malkin's of this world sure helps scoring goals and collecting points.

Will Guentzel be able to reach the 30 goals plateau this upcoming season or was this past year just a fluke?
