The Carolina Hurricanes' playoff hopes just took a major hit, after their All-Star defenseman was injured by a teammate in practice.

Justin Faulk was injured when he collided with teammate Brad Malone, and according to multiple reports crashed violently into the boards. The Carolina Hurricanes released the following statement via their official website.

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk left practice at Raleigh Center Ice on Thursday after colliding hard with the near boards.

Faulk made his way to his feet and skated to the bench, where he was briefly looked at by Assistant Athletic Trainer Doug Bennett. He then skated slowly off the ice to be further evaluated by Head Athletic Trainer Pete Friesen.

Head coach Bill Peters had no update on Faulk immediately after practice.
The Hurricanes have not provided an update on Faulk, but if he is seriously injured it could very well put an end to Carolina's push for a post-season bid this year.
