An absurd rumour about Canucks’ Pettersson keeps going around…

Why would people even say that?!

Vancouver Canucks sensation rookie Elias Pettersson is not only known for his amazing talent and skills on the ice: quite recently, he became famous for the stunning death stare he landed on a media member for asking a ridiculous question.

Questions about the “death stare” came up several times during All-Star Weekend, including a live interview from Scott Oake of CBC during the Skills Competition, and fans are still laughing about it.

However, according to Elliotte Friedman’s latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet, things have gotten out of hand since when the subject of Pettersson’s personality comes up. There seems to be a rumour that Pettersson “is tough to deal with” and Friedman is having none of it.

“Most insane controversy: that  Elias Pettersson is tough to deal with. No one at All-Star complained. He’s done After Hours, and an in-studio sit-down with Nick Kypreos the day after he was injured in Montreal. English is not his first language, but he tries to do everything. This can’t be serious.”

We all know that the death stare was the perfect response to a ludicrous question about whether he wanted to go back to Sweden after he got concussed by Michael Matheson, after he had already been asked if the hit made him want to stay in Sweden. Pettersson seemed to think that was a dumb and insulting question, because: IT WAS.

“It doesn’t make you want to go home again though, right?”

To that question, Pettersson said nothing. Just a brief death stare, and a look away.

The Canucks rookie seems like a pretty quiet guy, and we all know language barriers can make a lot of people uncomfortable. For a guy who has a camera up his face most of the day, I say he is more than pleasant around it.

If Friedman believes the rumour is stupid, we believe so should you.
