Justin Williams wanted a different ending for his team. Actually, he didn’t want things to end at all for the Carolina Hurricanes.

However, star goalie Tuukka Rask posted his seventh career playoff shutout, and the Boston Bruins swept the Canes out of the Eastern Conference final, winning 4-0 to reach their third Stanley Cup Final in nine years.

After the loss, the Hurricanes met at centre ice to salute their fans and as they exited to their dressing room it was easy to see that Williams was very emotional.

He got even more emotional once he got to his stall where his two ids were waiting for him in tears. Williams did not take time to remove his uniform and sat down to comfort them.

As per a French tweet from RDS’ Luc Gelinas, it was a moving scene to see Williams in full uniform, comforting his son and daughter in tears in front of his stall.

This is how Williams explained a piece of their conversation when asked about it by the reporters during his postgame scrum.

“I told my kids I’d be in Boston for the weekend...now I can be there when they come home from school tomorrow.”

It is clear that the Bruins got under Williams’ skin during the series, but the Canes’ captain’s raw emotions have always been true and sincere. And we saw more than ever last night when he held his kids after elimination.
