Andersen calls out Leafs teammates says they don’t, “support each other”

In case you missed it last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs dropped a 6-4 decision to the visiting Edmonton Oilers in a game that was dominated by Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

McDavid had a goal and three assists and made highlight reels around the sports world with this INCREDIBLE move on Leafs defender Morgan Rielly:

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Even if you’re a Leafs fan you have to appreciate the speed and skill of McDavid. Just electric.

One person, however, who did NOT appreciate McDavid’s victimization of the Leafs was Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen. The star goalie was yanked midway through the game, but he can hardly be faulted for his team’s loss. The fact is, the team relies on Andersen much too much and it showed last night.

Andersen was visibly frustrated on the Leafs’ bench and even took a bit of time to vent to the Toronto media afterwards.

Check it out:

I mean… he’s not wrong. The Leafs have looked like world beaters this season when they’re all on the same page. When things go awry though… they simply fall apart.

Maybe it’s the old-school mentality in me, but a well timed hit or fight could have really changed things last night for the Leafs. Unfortunately for them they don’t have anyone willing or capable of stepping up on their current roster. You have to think that GM Kyle Dubas is keeping his eyes on the trade market for a player like Wayne Simmonds or Kyle Clifford to fill that void.
