Andrei Markov finally gets a PTO

He would have probably preferred to end back in Montreal, but that’s better than nothing…

Veteran defenseman Andrei Markov wanted to keep playing professional hockey and that’s what he gets to do.

On Thursday, it was announced that the Russian blue liner agreed to a professional tryout (PTO) with the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL back home.

While Markov was hoping for another chance in the NHL, it seems like none of the 31 teams were willing to give him that shot.

The 40-year-old played for Kazan Ak-Bars in the past two seasons, recording seven goals and 40 assists in a total of 104 games.

Markov was hoping to end his career in the NHL, but Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin revealed earlier this summer that he did not want to deprive a young player of a place on the roster. The veteran player attempted to get the interest of the league with videos of his summer workout sessions, however, no club took the risk of signing him.

We wish him all the best in Russia!
