Detroit Red Wings' fans are up-in-arms today over the name of the team's new arena.

On Thursday the team announced that the Wings' new home, which is currently under construction, will be named the Little Caesars Arena after naming rights were sold to Mike Ilitch, the owner of the franchise pizza chain.

Needless to say the announcement was met with outrage from one of the NHL's most diehard fanbases, as the new name is clearly not to their liking. Fans have gone as far as to begin an online petition to have the name changed.

The petition, started by Julien Nadeau, is fighting to change the name to Caesars Colosseum, which he believes "will still pay homage to Little Caesars, but will sound better (AND TOUGHER) for the deserving team." The petition states that the currently approved name "has a terrible ring and will be the laughing stock of the NHL."

As of Saturday the petition has gained over 13,000 online signatures from displeased Red Wings supporters.

Wings' fans may have their work cut out for them, as a 20-year naming rights agreement averages more than $6.25 million per year. Ilitch and his family own the Red Wings and the pizza chain as well as the Detroit Tigers.

It is certainly a huge difference from the iconic Joe Louis Arena, which the team called home since 1979.
