Another first rounder bolts for the KHL!

The 2019-20 has yet to start - though it is just around the corner - and KHL insider Igor Erenko has just confirmed that another National Hockey League first rounder is leaving to play overseas.

According to Eronko, Kerby Rychel has decided to pack up and move to Russia, where he just signed a one-year contract with Neftekhimik of the KHL.

It was a brutal season last year for Rychel, who was selected 19th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2013. The poor guy was traded four time before landing with the Calgary Flames last season, in which he played just two contests and ending up spending most time with the Stockton Heat, the team’s farm club in the American Hokey League, recording 43 points in 57 games.

In his short NHL career, Rychel’s rights were traded to Columbus from the New York Rangers, he was then flipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016 for Scott Harrington. He didn’t take part in a single game in the NHL with Toronto before they moved him again to the Montreal Canadiens, where he suited up just four times.

In 43 NHL games, he has just 14 points, though his AHL numbers are much more respectable. He might get a better chance to show off his offensive talents in the KHL after all…
