Another huge blow to the Wings...

Mantha won't be coming to save the Wings anytime soon...

In a season that’s been filled with almost nothing but bad news, the Detroit Red Wings just got another heaping scoop of it on Tuesday.

Leading scorer Anthony Mantha has been absent for the past month after suffering a rib injury when he was thrown to the ice by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin. According to head coach Jeff Blashill, he may not see the ice again for the rest of the season.

“He’s still a ways away,” Blashill said Tuesday in Minnesota. “A month maybe.”

Detroit Free Press writer Helene St. James also indicated that Blashill hinted at the possibility of Mantha being out longer than just the next month - possibly, even the remainder of the season.

Detroit has been pressed for goal scoring, as their goal differential is currently dead last in the NHL at a staggering -88. To paint a better picture, the New Jersey Devils are second last with a mere -45 goal differential. Ouch.

As if that bad news wasn’t enough, they’ll also be without defenseman Mike Green for at least a few weeks. He was injured during Monday’s loss against the Colorado Avalanche and didn’t return. Forward Frans Nielsen also left the game, but hasn’t been ruled out of future games just yet.

The Red Wings will face-off against the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night at 8:00 PM EST.
