Another option on the table for Kessel

Pierre LeBrun breaks it down:

Everyone appears to be focus on the latest rumour that surfaced last week, claiming that Phil Kessel vetoed a trade to Minnesota that saw the Pittsburgh Penguins land Wild forward Jason Zucker in the move.

It was also revealed that while Kessel nixed the trade now, he might be willing to consider the Wild later on this summer when the 2019-20 season is getting close to start. Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford is still discussing a Kessel trade with teams around the league as NHL insider Pierre LeBrun said that "it's a question of when, not if, for Kessel to be dealt but where exactly remains to be determined."

However on Friday, LeBrun wants you to remember that there is another option on the table for Kessel.

LeBrun mentioned that while about a week ago Rutherford thought for sure he'd trade Kessel this summer, he is now open to keeping him if a fair deal does not come around, and he has shared that with Kessel himself.

We don’t know how Kessel would feel about staying in Pittsburgh after so many attempts to get rid of him.

It is to be said that Kessel isn’t making it easy for Rutherford as it was reported yesterday that the veteran forward will accept a trade to only one team, the Arizona Coyotes.

Let’s see how the Penguins can fix this to make this a viable option for the team and Kessel…
