Another sign of trouble for injured Penguin Olli Maatta.
Keystone Press.

The news surrounding the status of injured Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta is getting worse not better.

Maatta was almost immediately ruled out of Game 3 by head coach Mike Sullivan after he was the victim of an ugly head shot from Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik, but the bad news isn't done there.

Despite having some time to recover, Maatta was not on the ice in any capacity at practice on Monday, indicating that he may still be a ways off from returning, which of course could mean multiple playoff games missed.

While the Capitals were dealt a significant blow of their own with a three game suspension to Orpik, a long-term injury to Maatta could be devastating for Pittsburgh.
