As per Elliot Friedman: “No one else is below Jonathan Toews’

Elliot Friedman opened up an interesting debate regarding  the Selke Trophy nomination. How come you can be nominated as being the best defensive forward if you don't happen to play on the penalty killing unit? The argument is not without reflecting Nazem Kadri's situation as some insider praise him to win the Selke this year.

"As momentum grows in everyone’s favourite city of Toronto to build up Nazem Kadri case for the Selke Trophy, the question must be asked — can someone win that award without killing penalties? Kadri averages three seconds of shorthanded time per game. The lowest average for any winner since time-on-ice recording began in 1997–98 is 44 seconds, by Pavel Datsyuk during his third and final victory in 2009-10.

Which leads Friedman to the conclusion that since then, no one is below Jonathan Toews PK time of 1:25 in 2012-2013. Isn't  it time to revisitate how the vote is made and focus on the metrics that could improve how it should be done?
