At least one team making a big push to acquire defenseman Travis Hamonic.

By all accounts New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic demanded a trade out of New York prior to the start of this season, but as of yet no deal has materialized.

Although Hamonic is not in any way disgruntled he requested the trade for personal reasons, and according to multiple reports Hamonic asked to be moved to a team in the west, presumably to be closer to his family. He many now finally get his wish.

According to comments from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman the Edmonton Oilers appear to working diligently on acquiring Hamonic, however Islanders GM Garth Snow may be loathe to trade him prior to end of this season with his Islanders in contention. On the other hand, if the Oilers manage to play themselves into contention prior to the deadline they may be more insistent to get a deal done soon rather than later. If the Oilers are not in contention however they may be more willing to wait for an offseason trade.
