Auston Matthews will face an awkward situation at Leafs’ training camp!

2020, man. Always has a surprise around the corner for you. On Friday morning, it offered a surprise to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, who will face an awkward situation at team’s training camp.

The Leafs’ AHL team the Marlies announced that they signed forward Scott Sabourin to a one-year contract on Friday. Now you’re starting to make sense of this funny news.

At the very start of the 2018-19 season, Matthews went viral when he mocked Sabourin on the ice after a shoving match last preseason, as he pointedly tried to look at the name on the back of Sabourin’s jersey as a who-are-you kind of thing.

While Maple Leafs fans thought it was hilarious, a lot of folks felt that it was an arrogant insult towards a hardworking player, one that is now working for the same club than Matthews.

Sabourin played his first 35 NHL games last season and accumulated 33 penalty minutes since the incident with Matthews. He might be able to prove himself and get up to play next to the man who mocked him in the preseason.

That would be awkward, but so worth it!
