This has to be a low point in the career of veteran National Hockey League defenseman Eric Gelinas.

According to a report from NHL insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports the Colorado Avalanche have made the decision not to extend a qualifying offer to Gelinas, effectively cutting him from their roster.

The Avalanche where an unmitigated disaster last season, and despite that the veteran Gelinas only found himself appearing in 27 games for the Avalanche, putting up just 1 point and a plus minus rating of -4 on the season. His numbers in the American Hockey League were even worse with a plus minus rating of -22 in 27 games at the AHL level.

One has to wonder if there will be an NHL team willing to extend Gelinas any kind of contract, after all he is only 26-years-old, still young for a defenseman, and his struggles could be linked to those of the Avalanche, at least to some extent.
