Babcock admits that Ovechkin’s comments sting and “hurt my feelings”

In case you missed it yesterday, the Washington Capitals managed to get past the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 thanks to an overtime BOMB by Caps captain and superstar Alex Ovechkin.

KABOOM! Thanks for coming out, Leafs.

Prior to the game, Ovi joked with reporters that because he’s getting old, he has to conduct his media responsibilities sitting down now.

When asked about Leafs superstar Auston Matthews though, Ovi gave a surprisingly thoughtful response and even offered up some advice for the youngster. First off, dial up former Caps head coach Dale Hunter, now back with the London Knights, if you want some tips on how to improve your defensive game.

Ovi then cut the jokes and offered up some kinds words for Matthews:

Ovi was then asked what his opinion on the Leafs as a whole is. The superstar chose his words carefully and replied, “It’s up to them how they want to do it. If they want to play for themselves or if they want to win a Stanley Cup, they have to play differently.”

Hard to argue with that. It wasn’t until Ovi and the Capitals finally buckled down in the defensive zone that they were hoisting the Stanley Cup after years and years and years of falling short.

Leafs head coach Mike Babcock is a believer in Ovechkin’s words and even admitted that they “stung” because it’s 100% true.
