Babcock on Nylander: “We think he will be back and running in a couple of weeks.”

Standby for your daily William Nylander Report:

With just three and a half days left before the NHL’s deadline to ink unsigned RFAs to a contract for the 2018-19 season, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock made a bold prediction on the fate of Nylander.

When talking with the media earlier this morning, Babcock was asked about Nylander and the impending deadline and the veteran head coach didn’t flinch.

Check it out:

Well alrighty then…

That IS a bold prediction given that there’s effectively been zero negotiations between the two sides the past while. It was reported last week that Nylander had agreed on salary with the Leafs at $6.9 million annually but that the two sides were at odds on contract term. Since then though, there’s been virtually no report of progress.

Incidentally, there’s been no real new buzz on the trade market for Nylander. There’s just the lingering rumour of a potential deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, but other than that… nothing new.

Here’s hoping Babs is right, Nylander signs and we can all move on from this saga.

End Report. Over and out.
