Babcock stops practice, Kadri and Komarov square off in epic race

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock usually runs a pretty tight practice. It’s a mix of high energy drills, cardio and systems training with little time left for any extra curricular activities. But yesterday, the Leafs’ bench boss made an exception.

After hearing teammates Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov argue for weeks about which player was fastest, Babcock decided to finally put them to the test. He blew the whistle about halfway through practice, lined up the two players at center and they were off! Teammates cheered from the benches as the speedsters rounded the final corner. So, who scored the victory? Komarov, but quite a bit actually.

Check out the video at TSN:

“We had a little derby there, it was fun actually. They’re good buddies and they’re hard on each other, so it was good entertainment,” said Babcock after the race.

Kardi, always the sore loser, couldn’t help but throw some shade at Komarov saying, “I told him next time we’ll do it with a puck and I think my advantages go up.”

Komarov was just happy to have finally pulled it off after weeks of calling his shot, “It’s something that’s been brewing for awhile now. It’s good now, if I would have lost that would have been tough.”
